    Ways to score in rugby

    Here are the four ways to score in Rugby Union matches.

    Tries – 5 points

    A try is scored when a player grounds the ball over the opposition’s goal line.

    A try is worth five points.

    Conversions – 2 points

    After a team scores a try, they have the opportunity to kick a conversion. The conversion is taken from a spot in line with where the try was scored, and it must pass between the goalposts and over the crossbar.

    How many points is a conversion in rugby

    A successful conversion is worth two points.

    Penalty kicks – 3 points

    A penalty kick is awarded to a team when the opposition commits a serious foul or infringement. The team can choose to kick for goal, and if the kick is successful, they are awarded three points.

    Drop goals – 3 points
