April is coming to a close which means the start of shallow water grouper fishing season.

However, this year there will be one big change.

Federal fishery managers are concerned about catch limits for gag grouper in Atlantic waters, arguably the most common of the shallow water grouper complex. As a result, gag grouper in Atlantic waters from North Carolina to Key West will be limited to a six week recreational fishing season from May 1 until June 15, 2024.
