The Red River Showdown, dating back to 1900, is one of the oldest and most storied rivalries in college football between the Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners.

The annual rivalry game is traditionally scheduled in October during the Texas State Fair and has been played at the Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas, TX on the banks of the Red River since 1912. In December 2023, the University of Texas and the University of Oklahoma agreed to a contract extension to keep the game at the Cotton Bowl Stadium through 2036.

For much of its history, the game was known as the “Red River Shootout.” However, in 2005, the name changed to the “Red River Rivalry,” and then to the “Red River Showdown” in 2014.

Allstate secured naming rights in 2023, renaming it the “Allstate Red River Rivalry.”
